In August 1997, Wales' links with the rest of the world received a major boost with the opening of Pembrey Airport, near Llanelli. As the recent winner of the Airfield of the Year for 2000 by Flyer Magazine, Pembrey Airport is proud to boast a facility that is welcoming and unique for those who visit.
The airport, located on the site of the former RAF Pembrey, is positioned on a wide, scenic coastal plain and offers easy access to those who visit by plane or by car, and is the perfect gateway to both South and West Wales. With on site restaurant facilities, car-hire and various hotel accommodation within 5 minutes drive of the airport. The airport is designated a Code 2 Airport, and aircraft safety is rated at CAT 1, 2 and 3 RFFS. With both aircraft hangarage and hard standing parking available, Pembrey offers an aviation facility worthy of its recent accolade. With such facilities it's no surprise that many aviation services and flying clubs use Pembrey.
South Western Airlines, Cambrian Flying School, Pegasus School of Flying, South Wales Microlight Centre, Helli Air Wales Ltd and Wales' own airline Air Wales , all use the facilities at this award winning airport.
With road links in the surrounding areas recently upgraded, access to the main tourist resorts, industrial and business centres of South and West Wales, and the ferry terminals at Swansea, Fishguard and Pembroke Dock are all just a short car journey away.
